This Wednesday: Swing Meets Ballroom!

oldSAA has a great dance planned for this Saturday, but once that’s over you’ll want more swing! Join Wednesday Night Swing this coming week
for a joint dance with Michigan Ballroom! We will merge the hot rhythms of Samba and Cha Cha with the fun tunes of Lindy Hop and Charleston! Meet new people, learn new moves & come out for a unique experience!

The music will include Latin American, Standard, and Swing dances. You will be able to cross over between dances and styles and try out moves with different partners! Fun!

This year’s Valentine’s day will be a very special one: SAA brings the entire Swing Dance community of Ann Arbor together to a unique VALENTINE’s SWING dance night! We will bring LIVE MUSIC by Jessy Carolina & The Hot Mess to you and hold a Jack ‘n Jill Lindy Hop competition! Come in your fancy dress and get a few awesome shots of yourself and your Valentine in our photo booth! Pictures will be published here.

Never danced before? SAA offers free Beginner Drop In Lessons every Wednesday! Click here for more information! For last-minute visitors there will be a free Beginner Lesson on Saturday (February 13) at 7:30 PM to get you moving on your feet!

THE BAND

Screen Shot 2016-01-28 at 8.13.32 PM.jpgJessy Carolina & The Hot Mess is a New York City based traditional jazz band formed in 2008. Over the years, the band has performed throughout the East coast and has participated in many organizations that include The Jazz Foundation of America, Music Under New York, Music That Heals, Healing Arts Initiative, and Make Music New York.  Early on, the band was featured on The Simpson’s 20th Anniversary Special and most recently, Jessy Carolina’s musical performances were featured in the video game Bioshock Infinite.  In 2012, te band traveled overseas and performed in Germany, Denmark, Israel, and Romania. Jazzercise of Ann Arbor is located at 1945 S. Industrial Hwy in Ann Arbor.

SAA provides an inspiring and welcoming space for you to discover and grow your talents! The opportunities are limitless to shape SAA’s program through your volunteerism. Consider joining our board! We are always looking for motivated, energetic, and fun students! Undergrads are particularly encouraged to get involved. And the best part is: no previous experience in Swing Dancing or club volunteerism is needed.

We start at the very beginning, so you don’t need any experience — or a partner, for that matter. Just bring yourself!What does ambidancetrous mean, you ask? You’ll be learning both leading AND following at the same time — double the dancing! We’ll be covering both Lindy Hop and Charleston in this series.

We will have a free Beginner Drop In Lesson and a social dance followed by a Blues Night back at the Vandenberg Room (UM campus) ! Mark your calendar for this awesome double-dance night! Here’s the event schedule:

6:00-6:45 PM     Drop In Beginner Lesson @ Botanical Gardens FREE!
6:45-9:00 PM     Wednesday Night Swing @ Botanical Gardens FREE!
